In 2006, when the World Cup was held in Germany, during the promotion of their hit “Hips don´t lie”, with the Haitian Wyclef Jean, both were invited to sing at the closing ceremony.

For the occasion, Shakira released a special version of the song known as “Bamboo,” which included an opening chant that became an anthem for fans.

Thus, on July 9, 2006, the Colombian sang for the first time at a sports ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, for more than 74 thousand attendees and millions of viewers on television.

Following the success of her performance in Berlin, Shakira released the song “Waka Waka (This is Africa)” on April 28, 2010, which was chosen by FIFA as the official song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Curiously, the song was initially scheduled for the closing ceremony, as it actually was, making Shakira the first artist to perform at both events.

The singer released the song “Dare (La la la)” for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on May 26, 2014, which featured the collaboration of Brazilian Carlinhos Brown. Although the official song for Brazil 2014 was “We Are One” by Pitbull, Shakira’s song was played almost equally on radio stations and television programs.

On July 13, 2014, Shakira performed at the closing ceremony at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro. With her son in her arms, she arrived at the stage set up in the middle of the field, to the rhythm of salsa and dancers with the flags of all the participating teams.
