Shakira Statue: A Tribute to the Iconic Singer in Barranquilla

The AMayor Jaime Pumarejo announced that the singer Shakira will have a new statue in recognition of the artist for leaving his homeland high.

Pumarejo explained that the work is already in progress and is by the artist Yino Márquez and soon it will be ready to be located in a strategic point chosen together with the community, so that locals and tourists can appreciate it.

The Shakira sculpture will have 6.20 meters high and will be made of bronze. The process is currently in the enlistment phase.

“We are going to recognize Shakira, in a couple of months we will be unveiling a statue of her so that the people of Barranquilla feel proud of this cultural reference, but also so that visitors come to make a ‘pilgrimage’, take a photo, stay in a hotel and invest in our beautiful city”expressed the mayor Pumarejo.

Also, the district manager he invited the people from Barranquilla to propose places where the sculpture might be located.

“The question that we ask the people of Barranquilla is where they want to see that statue, where they would like us to put it, and in that way they participate and send a lot of love to that artist who has raised the name of our city and has taken it to the whole worldsaid.

On the other hand, in addition to the statue of the singer, the mayor revealed that he is also working on a work that will represent a deconstruction of the shield of Barranquilla.

In this work the elements of the shield of Barranquilla will be represented in front of the Magdalena river: the two cannons, the flag and the soldier who guards that flag.

For their part, the barrels will have the same dimensions than those located in the bolivar promenadewith a size of three meters each.

We are going to place these figures and then a vignette that when the person takes the photo the shield and the person inside the shield appear in three dimensions ”, counted.
