Shai Hope: Achieving Legendary Feats in West Indies Cricket

West Indies captain Shai Hope achieved a legendary feat following completing 60 runs in the first ODI of England’s West Indies tour. Shai Hope achieved one of the most important achievements of his career by crossing the 5,000-run mark in ODIs.

Shai Hope is the ninth West Indies player to achieve this feat. Hope is also the ninth highest run-scorer for the West Indies.

Chris Gayle, Brian Lara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, Sir Vivian Richards, Richie Richardson, Ramnaresh Sardawan and Marlon Samuels are the previous West Indies players to have completed 5000 runs in ODIs (in order of highest run scorers).

Apart from this, Shai Hope had another legendary achievement. Hope created history by becoming the third fastest player to reach 5,000 runs in ODIs. Hope shares the third spot with cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards and Virat Kohli.

Hope crossed the golden mark of 5,000 runs in his 114th innings.

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam and South African legend Hashim Amla are at the first and second positions in the list. Babar crossed the 5,000 run mark in 97 innings while Amla achieved 5,000 ODI runs in the 101st innings.

Hope currently has 5,049 runs from 114 innings in 119 matches. Hope’s highest score is 170 at an average of 51.52 and a strike rate of 77.58.

Hope has scored 16 ODI centuries and 24 half-centuries.

Meanwhile, West Indies won the first Test on the strength of Hope’s century. The Caribbean beat England’s target of 326 runs with seven balls and four wickets to spare. Shai Hope, the driving force in the team’s victory, scored 109 runs off 83 balls and was the star of the match.

The second match of the three ODI series is on December 6. The venue is the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
