| Shahid Afridi is the chairman of the selection committee

Islamabad: Former captain Shahid Afridi has been appointed as the interim chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee. Afridi was brought to the new position ahead of the New Zealand series. Former players Haroon Rashid, Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will be there to help Afridi.

Afridi’s first task is to break up the Test team selected by the ousted chairman Mohammad Wasim and his team. Pakistan suffered a complete defeat in the three-Test series at home against England.

PCB said that making Afridi the chairman of the selection committee is a good decision. Management Committee spokesperson Najam Sethi said. Afridi was an aggressive cricketer. He has 20 years of cricket experience and has won big in all formats. Najam Sethi also said that he supported young talents.

The squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand at home has already been announced. Mohammad Wasim announced the team. Test series against New Zealand will start on 26th. New Zealand are also playing a three-match ODI series in January. Abdul Razzaq, who was a Pakistani all-rounder, is coming to the selection committee from the position of coach of the Central Punjab team.

Rao Iftikhar was a coach at PCB’s National High Performance Center in Lahore. The 42-year-old Afridi has played 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 Twenty20s for Pakistan. Afridi holds the record of being the youngest player to take a century and take five wickets in Tests. Afridi scored his century at the age of 18 years and 333 days. His first five-wicket haul was at the age of 18 years and 235 days.
