Pakistan’s top judoka Shah Hussain Shah came close to making it to the Tokyo Olympics after a brilliant performance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.
This is the best performance by any Pakistani in a Judo Grand Slam. The Pakistan Judo Federation says that if Shah Hussain maintains his position, he will qualify for the Olympics on the continental quota. Judoka Shah Hussain Shah has been sent to Brazil to play the Olympic qualifying round.
At the Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Slam, Hussain Shah received a first round bye in the minus 100 kg Gweight category, after which he defeated Ukraine’s World No. 55 Anton Sivtsky in the second round. In the third round, the Pakistani judoka defeated Uzbekistan’s World No. defeated K. Mohammad Karim Khurmao, but in the quarter-finals, he was defeated by a player from Azerbaijan, after which in the first fight of the rematch, Shah Hussain Shah defeated China’s Ari Hambato, but in the medal fight, the Pakistani player was defeated by Canada’s world no. Four Shady Alans faced defeat.
After finishing fifth in the Grand Slam, Shah Hussain Shah is likely to get at least 350 points after which he is in a solid position for Olympics qualification.
According to the secretary of Pakistan Judo Federation, Masood Ahmed, the final ranking will be decided in a couple of days, but if Hussain Shah maintains his position at the moment, he can make a place in the Olympics on the continental quota.
Shah Hussain Shah will now participate in the Australian Grand Prix, after which he will also play a tournament in Hong Kong. The Judo Federation says that participating in these events will strengthen Shah Hussain Shah’s position for the Olympics.
