Cimahi POLRES handles 87 cases of sexual violence affecting women and children throughout 2024. The role of parents is asked to be increased so that cases do not increase.

Cases of violence against children are usually committed by people closest to the victim, whether they are related to their family or neighbors. The factors that cause these cases to continue to occur are because victims tend to be dependent on their parents as well as economic needs and educational factors.

The latest case of sexual violence was experienced by an 11 year old child from Cihampelas District, West Bandung Regency, with the suspect being two elderly people who the victim considered to be his grandfather.

Currently suspects M, 68 and L, 53 have been detained at the Cimahi Police for further investigation. They are threatened with a sentence of 15 years in prison.

“There is still a family relationship between the victim and the two suspects. The suspect’s motive was to be tempted by the beauty of the victim’s body, who was still in grade 4 of elementary school. Currently the victim has been taken into custody by his family because he has been living at the suspect’s house,” explained Cimahi Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Tri. Suhartanto, Monday (7/10).

He explained that suspect M had been carrying out depraved acts at his house since November 2023 by luring money to the victim. Meanwhile, L molested the victim approximately 10 times since he was entrusted by his mother because he had migrated to become a migrant worker.

“This case was discovered after the victim told his brother directly about the tragic incident he experienced,” he added.

His party expressed concern over the rise in various cases of sexual harassment that befell minors. Therefore, Tri asked for an active role from the community, especially parents, to pay special attention to their children so that they don’t easily trust strangers.

“We are no longer looking for a disclosure process, but we must play an active role in preventing cases like this from increasing. Parents are obliged to protect their children so that they do not become the next victims,” he explained.

Meanwhile, M and L admitted their mistake in molesting the victim who they considered to be their own granddaughter.

“I did it because of desire, now I regret it,” said M when questioned by the police.
