SGS: profitability penalized by confinements in China

The SGS group ended the first half with an increase in turnover, but performance was penalized by the confinements in China.

Revenues since the beginning of the year amounted to 3.3 billion francs, up 5.2% year on year, or 6.8% at constant exchange rates. In organic terms, growth was 5.8% year on year, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

Adjusted operating profit (Ebit) increased by 0.2% to 457 million francs, due to the confinements imposed in China. Excluding China, adjusted operating profit growth reached double digits. Net profit attributable to shareholders improved by 1.5% to 272 million.

The copy made by the Geneva group is more or less in line with the projections of the analysts polled by AWP, with a turnover better than expected, but an adjusted Ebit below.

For the full year, SGS management expects mid-single-digit organic growth and adjusted operating profit and corresponding margin at the same level as last year. The dividend must be at least as high as in 2021.
