Twice a year, to which we can add a few special editions, the Games Done Quick association organizes a marathon of several days, during which many speedrunners take turns to raise funds for a good cause.
The very first event, the Classic Games Done Quicj took place in January 2010 and raised $10,531. The event, renamed Awesome Games Done Quick in 2011, quickly grew to exceed $1 million in 2014 in aid of the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The return of the SGDQ in person, an expected event
In parallel was set up a second event, placed at the beginning of the summer, the SGDQ for “Summer Games Done Quick”, whose funds have been donated to Médecins sans Frontières since 2013. Both the AGDQ and the SGDQ have exceeded two or three million dollars collected for several years, with a record at 3.4 million dollars last January during the AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick). Last week, that is from June 26 to July 3was held the new edition of the SGDQ, with an important element: the return of the public. After two editions held at a distance due to the pandemic, the public was back in recent days to support the players achieving the (many) performances.
More than 100 games and a symbolic milestone once more reached
Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty, Metroid Dread, Elden Ring, Control, Doom Eternal or Mass Effect et Super Mario Odyssey have been the subject of remarkable runs, but these are more than 100 games that have been presented. The replays are also available in original version on the association’s Twitch and Youtube channel, or commented in French by Le French Restream on their YouTube channel. After reaching and exceeding $3 million raised in 2019, the SGDQ experienced a slight drop in donations during the 2020 and 2021 editionsbut the march forward has been postponed!
TOP ! SGDQ 2022 raised a total of $3,016,200 for @MSF_USA! Thank you to everyone who made this marathon possible, and thank you all for your incredible generosity and support ❤️
An updated sum on the official site with the latest donations, allowing us to indicate SGDQ has made it possible to transmit to Médecins sans Frontières the sum of 3,022,010.49 dollars, with a record donation of $238,310, an average of $71.25 and a median donation of $25. This is the second time the summer event has passed the three million markwhich obviously made the spectators, the organization and the runners very happy.
If all goes well, we will find the AGDQ and the SGDQ in January and June 2023. The dates of the events, if they take place, have not yet been revealed by the organization.
