On Twitter, an SFR user shared a strange SMS sent to him by the operator. The latter tells him that following his excessive Internet consumption, his speed will be limited to 10 Mb/s. In response, SFR claims not to be the author of this message. However, the number displayed is indeed used by the operator.
Update of May 31, 2022:
After leaving the subscriber unanswered for several hours, SFR finally reacted to the latter’s tweet. According to the operator, and as several readers have pointed out to us in the comments, the message received would simply be SPAM. Indeed, he explains that “lofficial communications from [ses] services are done from the number 1023″ and therefore ask “not to consider this SMS and not to click on any possible link”.
Bonjour @Hamster_I, this is SPAM. The official communications of our services are made from the number “1023”. I ask you not to consider this SMS and not to click on any possible link.
Thank you for your understanding,
Ilan— Assistance SFR (@SFR_SAV) May 30, 2022
SFR has also contacted us to let us know that “there is no consumption limit on fixed Internet usage. We are not the source of the misleading text message referred to on an isolated Twitter account.” Nevertheless, it is still difficult to disentangle the true from the false in this matter.
Contrary to what SFR claims, the number 38948 is indeed used by the operator to send SMS to its subscribers, as several subscribers have also pointed out. Moreover, it seems strange that this “spam” does not seek to extract confidential information from the person concerned, or to redirect him to a phishing page.
Article of May 30, 2022:
Is SFR still guilty of a dubious business practice? After regular increases in its mobile plans and to his recent condemnation by the tax authorities following having applied too high a VAT, a new case risks tarnishing the image of the operator a little more. On Twitter, the user @Hamster_I shared a screenshot of a text message sent by his carrier. The least we can say is that the latter arrives with bad news.
SFR thus informs its subscriber that it has observed a “abnormal use” of its Internet consumption, “likely to degrade [son] network and harm SFR subscribers” located in the vicinity. A surprising decision was therefore made: @Hamster_I will see its Internet speed restricted to 10 Mb/s ” until the first day of the following month beyond 3 TB consumed. » To which the principal concerned responded by immediately terminating his contract.
SFR reduces the Internet speed of excessively greedy subscribers for no reason
Indeed, the SMS stipulates that this sanction is applied in accordance with the “Conditions of the Offer” subscribed to by the subscriber, who also uses the SFR box 8X, the latest from the operator. Problem: at no time does the contract in question mention the possibility of having its speed restricted following excessive Internet consumption.
As Univers Freebox reports, we might then think of the 4 Box subscription, or even 4G / 5G unlimited, but once more things do not stick. Both stipulate that the flow will be reduced “beyond 200 GB until next billing date”and not beyond 3 TB as mentioned in the SMS received by the user.
On the same subject : SFR is champion of 4G deployment in April 2022, France exceeds 60,000 sites
Mobile plans, on the other hand, do specify that “the customer will be notified by SMS of its unreasonable use” if the case arises. But in his series of tweets, @Hamster_I specifies that he uses his Internet box well to consume the data pointed out by SFR. Anyway, even the mobile plans do not threaten a potential restriction. For now, the mystery is complete.
I download torrent series at night and @SFR who sent me this!! My blood has just taken a fucking turn, immediate termination, it’s the scam of the century, the internet is not really unlimited on the landline at #sfr. Do you believe in the year 2000?
