Seydou Diouf sets the record straight following the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry

This Wednesday, January 31, the Assembly adopted the parliamentary commission of inquiry. On the eve of this plenary which resulted in the adoption of this commission, the magistrates of the constitutional council released a press release to deplore the posture of the PDS deputies who accused certain members of corruption. And one of them, namely judge Cheikh Ndiaye, filed a complaint against members of the said party.

A blatant offense against elected representatives of the people according to the president of the Law Commission and member of the coalition Benno Bokk Yakaar. Indeed, according to Seydou Diouf who reacted during the vote on the OFNAC law, constitutional judges must respect the function of deputy. To believe it “there is no separation of powers called into question. It is abnormal for colleagues to be intimidated simply because they exercised constitutional power ».

«We are talking about separation of powers. But what is called into question in the context of a request for the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry? It is the Constitution that allows them to do so. It is this same constitution which confers powers to the Constitutional Council, the legislature and the entire judicial power. I am an MP and I respect my position. It is in this logic that I demand that my function be respected as much as I respect others in their functions. I don’t compromise on that. Why should we not exercise our power through this prism? » he asks.

As a reminder, the parliamentary commission of inquiry was proposed to “shedding light on the circumstances and process that led to the exclusion of Karim Wade and many other candidates.”
