On the 18th, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul applied for an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old suspect in a sexual assault on a mountain trail in Sillim-dong on charges of rape and injury.
According to the police, Mr. Choi is suspected of beating and sexually assaulting an unknown woman on a hiking trail in a hill connected to a park in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul the morning before.
The police were dispatched at 11:44 a.m. the previous day with a report of a hiker, and Choi was arrested at the scene of the crime at 12:10 noon.
During the police investigation, Choi admitted to both sexual assault and injury charges.
He said to the police, “I often went to the park to exercise because it was close to my house. I knew there was no CCTV and decided to commit the crime.” The police believe that Mr. Choi, who is familiar with the geography of the area, walked from his home in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, to Yasan, looking for the target of the crime.
It was investigated that Mr. Choi assaulted the victim with knuckles, a metal weapon, in both hands. He stated, “I bought knuckles on the Internet last April for the purpose of rape.”
The victim is unconscious and is being treated at a university hospital in Seoul.
