Sexism at Utrecht Student Corps: members distribute banga list, makers suspended

Several members of the Utrecht Student Corps (USC) have distributed a PowerPoint presentation about the appearance and sexual allure of thirty female students. The PowerPoint is now being circulated nationally in student circles.

The ‘Grietenpresentation year 23’ contains (bikini) photos of students from the female student association UVSV. They are referred to by name and surname. It contains comments of the caliber “Needs to be fucked quickly”. Some of the women are called dragons. It also contains telephone numbers and sex performances of students.

The list would be long forwarded Under students. The two makers are said to have now been suspended. The USC, which only men can join, mentions the action on its own website is shameful and disgusting. “It goes without saying that the biggest priority is to properly care for the victims, about which there is close contact with the UVSV board.”

Other incidents

Grove hazing, violence, bangalistssexist speeches…members of student associations regularly make the news because of inappropriate behavior.

Corpora shine to a culture change to work. For example, they promise this to universities, colleges and municipalities if they lose management grants or are no longer welcome at official events. The Utrecht Student Corps is also working on a cultural change. “Although we have already taken many steps in the right direction, this excess shows that we as an association are absolutely not yet where we want to be,” the response states.

‘This excess shows that we as an association are absolutely not yet where we want to be’

Utrecht University and Utrecht University of Applied Sciences have been informed by the association and respond that they are “unpleasantly surprised”. They find the situation “painful and highly objectionable”.

“We realize that a board cannot always prevent cross-border events from taking place,” said a written response. “We do think it is essential that student associations, based on a healthy association culture, do everything they can to prevent excesses and to act effectively if they do occur.”

Stripper

That is almost the same reaction as last year, when USC was discredited because of a sex act. In the society of the association, a stripper was photographed with a wine bottle in her behind, perhaps intended for rings. to throw.

University and college administrators are now announcing a robust discussion with the USC board. They will then decide on any ‘additional measures’. The association could lose management grants. The Utrecht city council also has questions about the incident stated.

Sexual misconduct is not always limited to words and photos. One in ten women is raped during their studies, according to a survey by Amnesty International. Last fall, a student pact was concluded to draw attention to the problems among associations and their members.
