Asunción, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) signed an alliance with the Municipality of Mariano Roque Alonso, to continue advancing in the drinking water and sanitation project for the basin of this city.
This important step is taken within the framework of the mission carried out by the financing agency, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), whose representatives have been in our country since this week reviewing the status of execution of the operation.
Representing the MOPC, the document was signed by Claudia Crosa, head of the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Dapsan), and on behalf of the municipality, Mayor Carolina Aranda. Deputies Marcelo Salinas and Johana Vega accompanied them, as well as the municipal councilors.
During the meeting held at the municipality headquarters, the general aspects of the project were also presented and the great social and environmental impact that the works will have was highlighted.
Road to tender
This agreement meets one of the requirements that will make it possible to begin the processes for the call for bids for the sanitary sewage works, the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the improvement of the drinking water system, which together will benefit 290,000 inhabitants of Mariano Roque Alonso and some neighborhoods of Asunción.
CAF Mission
After signing signatures, the CAF mission continued with the tour of the area where the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and some of the future locations of the pumping stations will be located.
In the followingnoon the mission was closed, with the preparation of conclusions, commitments and future schedule.
More regarding the program
The “Drinking Water and Sanitary Sewerage Program for the Metropolitan Area of Asunción – Mariano Roque Alonso Basin” contemplates a sanitary sewage network (sewer network) of more than 447 km, 10 pumping stations and a Wastewater Treatment Plant ( WWTP).
It should be noted that the WWTP will also be able to receive effluents from a part of the city of Luque in the future. All this represents an investment of USD 160,000,000.
The management and execution of this undertaking is the responsibility of the MOPC, while the operation and maintenance of the system, once the works are completed, will be the responsibility of the Sanitary Services Company of Paraguay (Essap), a service provider in the area. of project.
