Severe Weather Update: Ministry of Emergency Situations Reports Damage and Injuries in St. Petersburg

The Ministry of Emergency Situations said what the bad weather had done in St. Petersburg during the day. Not only trees and cars were damaged: a woman needed medical attention.

As reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in St. Petersburg, by six in the evening on October 7, fire and rescue units managed to handle nearly a hundred calls related to the consequences of the rampant disaster.

Most of them are complaints regarding trees that have not withstood the weather or are regarding to fall. Rescuers went out nine times to eliminate the threat of collapse of weakly secured structures.

According to department estimates, almost a dozen cars were damaged. A woman was injured – she received cuts from broken glass.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations warned that wind gusts might reach 17 m/s on Saturday. Rain and sleet are in the forecast. On Sunday, October 8, the city will not become more comfortable.

According to the UGMS for the North-West, now in St. Petersburg the wind is blowing at a speed of up to 8 m/s. The rain will not stop in the coming hours.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Neva is rising. Up to 140 cm at the hydrological post of the Mining Institute it got up at seven o’clock in the evening, following an hour and a half it reached 148 cm.
