Tornadoes and severe weather struck the US state of Tennessee on Saturday and killed at least six people, seriously damaging homes and causing power outages, according to authorities.
Three of the deaths occurred in the northern suburbs of Nashville, capital of this state in the southeastern United States.
The Nashville Office of Emergency Management posted photos on social media showing uprooted trees and destroyed homes. “Unfortunately, we can confirm that there have been three deaths as a result of the severe weather on Nesbitt Lane,” the office said on X.

A tornado touched down in Clarksville, in the north of the state, also causing casualties. “We can confirm that three people have died, two adults and one child,” Montgomery County authorities said, adding that “23 people were treated at the hospital.”
The first rescue teams are “still in the search and rescue phase (following) this disaster”, they said, asking residents not to venture onto the roads.
Some 52,000 households also reported power outages in the state on Saturday evening, compared to 86,000 previously, according to the specialist site PowerOutage.us.
Images broadcast by local media showed rows of houses destroyed by strong winds, damaged trees, overturned vehicles and toppled power lines.
