The change in weather is confirmed for the second half of the week, with the establishment of a new stormy deterioration over France. This will be followed by a general refreshment for the weekend.
The change in weather we told you regarding last week is confirmed from Thursday. It will occur in the form of thunderstorms that will cross France from west to east. We will therefore be able to benefit from a welcome new watering following the high temperatures of the past few days. This stormy front will be followed by cooler and mixed weather for the week-end.
Towards a stormy degradation marked Thursday in the west
The change in weather will be caused by the passage of a depression north of Scotland. Although far away, it will cause cool air to descend aloft, forming a cold front that will progress slowly from west to east between Thursday evening and Friday evening. As it passes, thunderstorms will occur.
After some hesitation, the weather models are now fairly consistent regarding this degradation, which looks moderate and classic in summer.
This should start Thursday followingnoon by the development of scattered thunderstorms North West as well as in the mountains, in a rather heavy atmosphere. Then, at the end of the day and in the evening, a stormy front should form on a fairly classic axis extending from the southwest to the north, passing through the Paris basin. These storms might be quite strong with disparate, but sometimes significant rainfall totals (20 to 30 mm).
The area most exposed to the strongest thunderstorms would then extend from the Centre-West to the Paris basin and Belgium.
During the night of Thursday and Friday, thunderstorms and showers extend from Occitania to the northeast, passing through Burgundy and Franche-Comté.
Friday: thunderstorms shift to the southeast, especially over the Alps
The stormy cold front will continue its slow track east and southeast on Friday. This disturbance will be mainly characterized by quite significant rainfall accumulations, with locally more than 30 to 60 mm in the center-east.
On Friday morning, sometimes strong, stationary and very rainy storms should affect the lower Rhône valley and Provence as well as the Rhône corridor and the Alps.
In the followingnoon, these stormy rains should invade the Southern Alps, Roussillon and the Corsican mountains, while the mistral will chase the disturbance in the lower Rhône valley and in Provence.
This degradation will a priori bring quite significant accumulations of rain. The risk of strong gusts seems insignificant. The risk of hail will be greatest Thursday followingnoon in the northwest, then Friday in the lower Rhône valley, and lower elsewhere.
