Very heavy rains caused flooding in West Flanders, reports Het Laaste Nieuws. The regions of Roeselare and Ypres are particularly affected, where several streets have been flooded. Firefighters in the Westhoek area in West Flanders received 130 calls for interventions on Monday following the heavy rains which drenched the region. In the areas surrounding Poperinge and Ypres, fire crews had to install sandbags and some streets were flooded.
The R32 ramp, towards Roeselare, at Gits has been closed. Indeed, according to the spokesperson for the Roads and Traffic Agency, Eveline Vandecaetsbeek, the road was flooded, forcing the police to close the ramp. The Ypres police alerted its residents and advised them not to take unnecessary risks and to move around.
The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a yellow alert for rain in the province on Monday. Even if the alert was valid for all of West Flanders, it was especially in the Westhoek that it rained.
Heavy floods in Pas-de-Calais
A few days following flooding linked to storm Ciaran, the Pas-de-Calais department was placed on Monday at 4:00 p.m. on red flood alert due to an “exceptional flood” expected on the coastal river Aa, Météo-France indicated. and Vigicrues.
The Aa is affected at Saint-Omer by an “exceptional flood that might exceed the historic flood of 2002”, explains Vigicrues. The red alert applies until Tuesday evening.
In Wallonia, we do not fear any flooding,” explains Stéphanie Ernoux, spokesperson for the Wallonia crisis center. “The situation is the opposite of that in Flanders. We were on early warning of floods, particularly for the Semois, this Saturday. But everything is back to normal and for the moment, we have no fear on the rivers of Wallonia. »
