A teacher in his 40s who was severely injured by a weapon wielded by a former student, a man in his 20s, has regained consciousness but is still in critical condition. The man fled immediately after the crime and was caught by the police and taken into custody.

According to the police on the 6th, Judge Lee So-min of the Daejeon District Court issued a warrant after questioning the suspect before arrest (examination of warrant validity) for Mr. A (28), who was suspected of attempted murder on the 5th. Mr. A, who covered his face with a hat and mask, did not answer questions from reporters asking about the motive for the crime as he entered the courthouse to attend the warrant review.

Mr. A is suspected of attempting to kill teacher B (49) at a high school in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon at around 10:3 am on the 4th by stabbing him in the face, chest, and arms seven times with a weapon. At around 9:25 am on the same day, Mr. A broke into the school by pretending to be a graduate of this school, and after seeing Mr. B enter the classroom after class, he followed him in and committed a crime with a previously prepared weapon. Mr. B, who was transferred to a nearby university hospital in an unconscious state, was fortunately regained consciousness after undergoing emergency surgery and is recovering in the intensive care unit, but is still in critical condition. After the crime, Mr. A escaped from school and ran away in a taxi. The police, who were dispatched after receiving a report from a faculty member, arrested Mr. A on a road in Jung-gu, 7 to 8 km away from the school at around 12:20 noon that day. Mr. A testified to the police, “I was a student at the high school where Mr. B worked in the past, and I committed the crime because I had a bad memory at the time.” There is a fact that Mr. B worked at the same school from 2011 to 2013, when Mr. A was in school, but it was not known whether he was actually in charge of the homeroom teacher or in charge of the subject.

From 2021 to last year, Mr. A was diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression at a hospital near his residence, and was recommended to be hospitalized by a doctor, but it was investigated that he was not hospitalized or treated. The drug/alcohol-related simple test results came out negative.
