Several killed in Russian attacks on Kharkiv

Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city and is located approximately 40 kilometers from the border with Russia. The city has been subjected to repeated bombing by Russian forces since the start of the war.

The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, says a 14-year-old girl was killed in a playground, while three others who were nearby were injured.

Several other people were killed when a Russian rocket struck a twelve-story apartment block elsewhere in the city. A fifth person was also killed in the attack, according to the governor.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports that Russian forces have taken control of a further three villages in eastern Ukraine. They will be Novozhelanne, located between Donetsk and Pokrovsk, Synkivka in the Kharkiv region and the small village of Kostjantynivka in Donetsk, which shares its name with a larger city under Ukrainian control.

Russia has recently taken control of a number of Ukrainian towns and villages.

There are many indications that Russian forces are focusing their forces in the direction of Pokrovsk. Ukrainian authorities say that the fighting in the area is intense and difficult.

– The most difficult situation remains in the direction of Pokrovsk. The enemy is trying to break through our defences, says Ukrainian defense chief Oleksandr Syrskyj on Friday.
