For the first time in several weeks, the Ukrainian capital Kiev has been the target of a major Russian missile attack. According to the military, air defense managed to intercept all 31 projectiles early on Thursday. Nevertheless, at least ten people were injured, as Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced. Rocket debris damaged several residential buildings and industrial facilities and also hit a kindergarten.
“After a break of 44 days, the enemy launched another missile attack on Kiev,” said the head of the Kiev military administration, Serhiy Popko. The city was shot at from different directions. Russia used strategic bombers, but some missiles were also fired from Russian territory. There was an air alarm for almost three hours. A multi-story building in the city center was evacuated following a fire broke out in one of the apartments. Windows in houses in the area were broken and cars caught fire.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia also deployed difficult-to-intercept hypersonic Kinshal (Dagger) missiles. Most recently, there was a major Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital at the end of January.
