A traffic accident on the A1 near Zurich-Seebach has led to massive traffic obstructions in both directions since Monday followingnoon. The Zurich cantonal police said several people were slightly injured.
The cause was a truck loaded with cider that left the lane for reasons that are still unknown, crossed both overtaking lanes, crashed into the central barrier and overturned into the oncoming lane. This led to further crashes, with two trucks and five passenger cars. Four people suffered minor injuries.
Traffic is back to one lane
Because of the accident, the A1 towards Bern was completely closed until around 5 p.m. After that, traffic was able to bypass the scene of the accident in one lane. In the direction of St. Gallen, traffic was mostly able to pass in one lane, the police said.
The salvage work of the trucks is currently underway, which will continue indefinitely. The police describe this as “complicated”. The loaded cider from the tipped truck is drained by the fire brigade and directed into a retention basin in a controlled manner.
The exact cause of the accident is being investigated by the Zurich cantonal police. According to initial findings, a technical cause is at the forefront of the investigation. (of)
