A violent storm with squalls and heavy rain swept across Carinthia on Saturday followingnoon. According to the state alarm and warning center (LAWZ), the first front hit Klagenfurt in particular. the professional fire brigade had to move out to several operations because of fallen trees and damage to house roofs in the state capital. A total of twelve alerts were received by the professional fire brigade in Klagenfurt. The underpass in Lastenstrasse was flooded. Numerous trees were uprooted or fell in the downtown area. According to initial information, no one should have been injured, but there was considerable property damage of an unknown amount.
Falling parts of the roof
Large metal parts of the roof fell from a building on Domplatz onto Karfreitstrasse. One of the parts pierced the windscreen of a parked car. According to the police, a second vehicle parked there was also damaged. The exact amount of damage caused is not known at this time. A video on social media shows the force and danger of the parts flying around.

At the moment, the Klagenfurt professional fire brigade, the Hauptwache and Viktring/Stein volunteer fire brigades are still busy with the clean-up work and the control center keeps receiving new alarms.
In Hüttenberg there was an agricultural one Building caught fire following lightning strike.
In the followingnoon were noisy Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (Zamg) also large thunderstorm cells over Wolfsberg and Spittal an der Drau, where the thunderstorm warning was orange at times. According to LAWZ, however, the fire brigade did not have to move out to storm operations in Upper Carinthia or in the Lavanttal for the time being.
According to Zamg, heavy rain, hail and thunderstorms can be expected throughout Carinthia until Sunday morning.
