Several European and American countries report cases of childhood hepatitis of unknown etiology

The United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Ireland have recently reported that hepatitis cases of unknown etiology have been found in children; some cases have detected novel coronavirus or adenovirus, but the role of the virus in the pathogenesis of hepatitis cases is not yet clear.
The WHO’s bulletin stated that on the 5th of this month, the United Kingdom reported 10 cases of severe acute hepatitis in children in Scotland; three days later, the number of such cases in the United Kingdom had risen to 74. Some patients were seriously ill, and six of them had received liver transplants. .
The above-mentioned patients reported in the United Kingdom are mainly children under the age of 10. Among the first 10 cases reported in Scotland, the patients were between the ages of 11 months and 5 years. Confirmed or suspected cases have also occurred in Spain and Ireland, and three patients reported in Spain , aged between 22 months and 13 years.
Up to now, WHO has ruled out the possibility that these cases are caused by hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E viruses, and new coronaviruses or adenoviruses have been detected in some of the case samples.
