According to figures made public on Wednesday in the Senate, 72 people were compensated by the National Body for Compensation for Medical Accidents (Oniam), mainly for myocarditis or pericarditis which occurred after a Covid vaccination.

No indication of the amount of compensation offered to the persons concerned has been given. “As of June 30, Oniam has ruled on the right to compensation in 241 cases” of post-Covid vaccination disorders, “including 30% in favor of compensation”, declared before the Social Affairs Committee of the Senate François Toujas, candidate for the presidency of Oniam.

Oniam’s compensation proposals concern “mainly myocarditis or pericarditis”, added François Toujas. In France, 150 million people have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

1,020 requests for amicable compensation

In total, Oniam received as of June 30 1,020 requests for amicable compensation for a health problem after a Covid vaccination, of which 768 remain under investigation, according to figures presented by François Toujas. At the top of the health problems mentioned in the claims for compensation are pericarditis and myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), with 211 cases.

This is followed by neurological disorders (196 cases, including 33 with facial paralysis), strokes-thromboses-pulmonary embolisms (129 cases), joint disorders (91 cases), hearing disorders (67 cases) and dermatological disorders (31 cases). .

These files will be one of “essential subjects for Oniam” in the years to come, said François Toujas. Oniam, whose full name is the National Office for Compensation for Medical Accidents, Iatrogenic Conditions and Nosocomial Infections, was created by a 2002 law.

It is responsible for processing claims for compensation from victims of serious medical accidents. “The victim can thus be compensated quickly thanks to an amicable process for his file, knowing that he can always, if he prefers, go to court”, indicates his website.

Oniam’s figures do not include these legal proceedings.
