Paris – (AFP)
On Saturday, demonstrators participated in marches in Paris and other French cities, to express their solidarity with the people of Gaza, and to demand an end to the Israeli army’s bombing of the Palestinian Strip, stressing their support for civilians.
1,800 people participated in the Parisian march, according to the police, and slogans such as “immediately stop the bombing” were chanted during the movement, according to an Agence France-Presse correspondent.
Noura, a member of the “Caregivers for Gaza” association, said, requesting that her fame not be revealed: “It is difficult to imagine your colleagues working without water, without electricity, and performing amputations without painkillers and under bombardment, with military personnel storming medical care facilities.”
The 30-year-old medical assistant continued: “We support civilians, not Hamas.”
Gael Kerant, a member of the leadership of the New Anti-Capitalist Party, one of the organizations calling for this movement, said: “Street initiatives must not stop, while Israel intensifies its bombing and killing of the people of Gaza.”
In Strasbourg (east), 400 people demonstrated, according to the police, while in Marseille, 500 people demonstrated, according to the police.
Demonstrations were also organized in other French cities.
The Marseille police had initially banned a demonstration called by the “Palestine Emergency” association, due to the risk of disrupting public order and fear of clashes.
But the administrative judiciary eventually suspended the ban following an urgent petition submitted by organizers to take action.
