A tragedy occurred at the Esztergom-Nyergesújfalu rally on Sunday afternoon: a participant lost control of his Skoda Fabia R5 and flew into a crowd of spectators on the side of the road; There were several deaths and soon a dozen injured. Contrary to initial reports, there were no children among the four fatalities; In addition to three men, a woman was killed. According to police, the accident occurred on the section between Lábatlan and Bajót.
The race was stopped immediately after the accident. The rescue workers arrived at the scene of the accident with eight vehicles and four helicopters. A total of eight people were taken to clinics with injuries of varying severity, two victims are still in mortal danger. The people involved in the devastating accident were in a section of the track that was closed to spectators.
According to police, the little girl, who was taken to a clinic with life-threatening injuries, also died on Tuesday. This brings the death toll to five.
