The seventh version of the early detection campaign for breast cancer was launched with great success. Its purpose is to provide a free space for women in Norte de Santander to access preventive tests against this disease.
Dr. Harvey Manosalva, scientific director of IPS Ecoimagen Salud, highlighted that around 15,000 new cases of breast cancer are registered annually worldwide, making it the main cause of death in women, according to data from the National Cancer Institute. He also pointed out that Norte de Santander ranks fifth in Colombia in terms of deaths from this disease.
In order to combat this problem, a mobile unit has been set up to travel around the department’s municipalities, offering breast ultrasounds for women between 30 and 40 years old, and mammograms for those over 40.
Cecilia Soler, social manager, announced that more than 300 women have already benefited from this initiative. The Government of Norte de Santander reaffirms its commitment to continue carrying out these early detection campaigns to improve the quality of life of women in the region.
Interested women over 30 years of age, with a family history or symptoms, and who belong to the subsidized health regime, can register by presenting their identity document at the Social Manager’s Office, located in the Government of Norte de Santander, between streets 13 and 14 with avenue 5, in the center of Cúcuta.
