A province you Walloon Brabanta secondary school in Jodoigne offers a new option called “Sciences spatial“. This establishment is the only one in Belgium and even in Europe to offer this new option with robotics courses and astrophysics courses.
Au CEPES from Jodoigne, seventeen secondary school students, enrolled in the “Space Sciences” option, will learn this year to build a robot or a mini-satellite. Ludovic Lambrechtsprofessor of robotics andcomputer details the objective pursued by this option: “We have computer classes on one side. We will learn algorithms and we will develop software that will remain in the computer. And if we’re really lucky, we’ll work with components like robots that we’ll make work together. It becomes really palpable. We will be able to give autonomy to robots and we will be able to see them evolve in front of we“.
Among the students enrolled in this new option, some have even changed schools to follow these courses in this establishment, as is the case of Amaury, 14 years old. “As soon as I saw there was an option that talked regarding that, I jumped at the chance. I thought I mightn’t miss this…“
If Thomas, 14, chose this option, it’s because he sees the future in this sector. “Why not later have a job in that field and learn from it?fun?“, he tells us.
Jules is more philosophical regarding the choice of this branch in particular: “Space has always amazed me. It’s so huge.”
The director of the institute CEPESMarie Louise Hoart welcomes the opening of this option: “It’s an opening on the world of tomorrow, on the scientific mount. It’s really an opportunity that we had to seize and it’s innovative. In addition, for the school, it obviously brings an innovative image”.
If this school now offers this course, it is because this area has the future. While the sector wonders which star will be the next to be explored, there will be no lack of debaucheries in this sector in the very near future.
Next year, other classes in this school will follow this option created in collaboration with the European Space Agency.
