K-Pop idol group Seventeen made history at the Glastonbury Music Festival by becoming the first K-Pop group to perform on the main stage.

Appearing on the Pyramid Stage, Friday (28/6) followingnoon local time, the 13-member idol group put on a full action-packed performance for 1 hour in front of their fans.

“We are honored to be here,” said Seventeen.

“Despite the barriers of language, country and culture, we can all connect as one through music,” they continued.

K-Pop idol groups who usually perform for 3 hours, this time mandated their performance to be full of energy for 60 minutes.

Seventeen were the biggest-selling group last year, selling 10 million albums. However, the K-Pop idol group only broke into the UK Top 40 last month.

Realizing this, Seventeen performed their newest and most listenable songs when they performed at Glastonbury.

Seventeen’s Glastonbury appearance shows the growing dominance of K-Pop on the world charts. Four of the top 10 best-selling music are from South Korea, namely Seventeen followed by Stray Kids, TomorrowxTogether, and NewJeans.

Glastonbury is a bit of a latecomer to K-Pop. BTS performed at Wembley Stadium twice in 2019 while Blackpink headlined Coachella and London’s BST Festival last year. (bbc/Z-1)
