The energy crisis affects us all at different levels. For some, life gets much tougher. This Sunday, November 27, in a report by seven to eight, Harry Roselmack met French people particularly affected by the rise in energy prices. Everything is good to reduce the amount of bills, some even go so far as to light themselves with candles so as not to turn on the light. For others, life is even more difficult. Eddy, for example, has to sleep in his car.

At 38, he has had many jobs, alternating periods of unemployment and short temporary assignments. Today, he begins a two-week training course almost 100 kilometers from home to become a grain silo guard. It is finally the opportunity of a real stable contract. “The promise of a better future”, for him. He then explains to us his daily life where he must pay attention to all his expenses, in particular the high price of l’essence. For example, when he drives, he monitors the consumption of his car: any fuel economy is good to take. He therefore lets go of the accelerator on the descents and tries to drive slowly so as not to consume too much.

Harry Roselmack’s Minute

“I feel sorry for this man”

To be able to follow his training, far from home, Eddy has no choice but to use his car. But with these long journeys from home, the result of the calculations is worrying: this training would cost him 100 euros per week just with the round trips by car. With her low income from unemployment and RSA, he only receives 650 euros and therefore cannot afford it. His only solution: sleep in his car. Difficult to have a good night’s sleep in these conditions. Because of the cold and humidity, he sleeps “an hour here, an hour there”.

For meals, he also tries to restrict himself: “I ate well yesterday so today I’m going to try to have a small light meal. A little sugar and then, that’s it.” In sad conclusion, the reporter tells him that he feels like he’d rather feed his car than him. Eddy replies, “She’s had more to eat than me this month.” On Twitter, many Internet users reacted to his situation, giving him support but also revolting. According to them, it is inadmissible to come to this.
