Seven killed in Brazilian slum police raid Police raid in Rio de Janeiro leaves 8 dead

Eight people have been killed in a police raid on a slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. State military police said the bodies of those killed had been found. The bodies were found during a raid between highway police and military police.

The bodies were found near the Salguero slum in the city of Sോo Gonലോalo. Locals told the media that the bodies were yet to be found.

Several weapons, pistols, grenades and drugs were seized during the raid, the report said. Local media reported that schools and hospitals were closed following the incident.

Locals protested as the body of a man who had been cleared of trees was found lying under a tarpaulin in the street. Police said one person was taken into custody during the raid.

Police say the raid was carried out to nab the culprits and one person was arrested. The Supreme Court last week ordered the Rio local government to implement an action plan within 90 days to reduce police violence and police killings. The police action came shortly following that.
