SEOUL (AP) — Torrential rains in South Korea have triggered flooding and mudslides that have left at least seven people dead and two missing, the government said Saturday.

In addition to that, eight people were trapped in landslides in the center of the country.

Three people lost their lives on Saturday when landslides swept through their homes in two central towns, the Interior and Security Ministry said. It added that two other people were found dead in other towns on Saturday in accidents caused by inclement weather, and two more people were killed when a building collapsed in landslides in the central city of Nonsan on Friday.

The report added that two people were missing on Saturday amid floods in the central town of Yecheon. Five people, he said, were injured in accidents caused by the avalanche on Friday and Saturday, including a train derailment.

South Korea has been enduring torrential downpours since July 9. The ministry said the rains led to the evacuation of some 1,570 people and left thousands of homes without power.

The South Korean weather agency forecast that parts of the country will continue to receive heavy rain through Sunday.
