(Agence Ecofin) – The Société d’exploitation du Transgabonais has acquired 6 new high-capacity locomotives. Manufactured in Illinois in the USA, these GT46 type locomotives weigh approximately 150 tons each and will allow, according to Christian Magni, CEO of SETRAG, to transport more than 50 wagons per rotation, once morest a current capacity of 36 to 40 wagons.

That “allows us to have an additional gain since we do not have the capacity to have more trains on the network. The increase in the number of wagons per train therefore makes it possible to make gains of 15 to 30% in capacity towed by each of our locomotives. These locomotives are all dedicated to SETRAG freight transport, i.e. the satisfaction of customer freight requests for wood, containers and fuel.“, he explained.

This new equipment is part of the modernization program for the SETRAG fleet, which has become dilapidated. They will contribute to improving the operation of traffic, but also to offering a better service to rail transport operators and users, since the Gabonese railway is struggling to meet the increasingly high demand from businesses.
