Sète: the HIV and STI screening and prevention center is open again at Saint-Clair hospital

It is once more possible to get tested free of charge for HIV and sexually transmitted infections at CeGIDD.

The free consultation center for information, screening and diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus infections, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases, CeGIDD had to close its doors in mid-December. A few weeks later, it is temporarily open once more.

Screening and prevention

The influence of the CeGiDD of Sète concerns the Thau basin but also the Agatois basin. The premises are located at the entrance to the Saint-Clair hospital in the premises of the medical health centre. Consultations with a gynecologist specializing in prevention and screening are by appointment on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. without an appointment. The director of hospitals in the Thau basin Claudie Greslon announces that “Hospital professionals have organized themselves so as not to generate a break in care for people while waiting for the resumption of free HIV and STI screening by the living association. Before the taken over by this new operator, we have put everything in place to ensure the continuity of care in this area”.

Complications

Faced with the complications generated by the successive announcements of closure in mid-December then reopening this Tuesday, January 24, it wishes to specify that “The hospitals in the Thau basin have never wanted to no longer provide this activity. We had expressed our difficulties in providing it perfectly insofar as it remains an activity 30% provided by a doctor, a nurse and a secretary, she explains“We had proposed to expand the offer. This made it possible to strengthen the CeGIDD with shared medical time. But also to ensure continuity of all activities over the year. This project was not retained by the “ARS therefore indicated that we were no longer able to provide CeGIDD up to what was required by the agency”. To ensure continuity of care and maintain this activity in the city of Sète, a solution therefore seems to have been found.. “I want to salute the professionals who agreed to resume this activity temporarily, when they had been announced the shutdown in mid-December. It was very unpleasant for all those concerned”concludes the director.
