Setback of the INE to the opposition

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— The General Council of the INE unanimously rejected the request of the PAN, PRI and PRD to suspend the morning broadcast of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador due to possible violations of the electoral law.

The ministries spoke out against the suspension of the morning sessions in the terms proposed by the opposition, since there are precedents from the Electoral Court that establish that it must be studied on a case-by-case basis.

Furthermore, the opposition coalition filed a complaint requesting these precautionary measures, which is why they considered that if they spoke out they would be prejudging the matter.

Xóchitl Gálvez had requested the cancellation due to the President’s “incontinence” to influence the race.

When presenting the proposal on behalf of the National Action Party (PAN), Senator Germán Martínez maintained that there is a history of limiting the morning conference during the electoral period, warning that neutrality in the election is being violated.

“I think it is convenient for the legitimacy of the new president of Mexico, either of the two, it is convenient for her to limit her voice to the president of the Republic,” he expressed.

Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, representative of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) warned that there is a systematic violation by the President of the Republic of the Constitution, and that the electoral authority is not guaranteeing an even floor.

“The damage is done, it is irreparable. The election is not equitable, the election has clear interference from the president,” he lamented. “Are we going to be observers of the systematic violation of the Constitution by the President of the Republic and do nothing? Not taking action? And if the electoral bodies do not protect us, we will have to call on Mexican society again to mobilize.”

Senator Emilio Álvarez Icaza described the president as “a serial violator of the Constitution,” which implies a systematic practice that can cause irreversible damage, which is why he called for a strong electoral referee.
