Service 3R Valorisation, and its president, Simon Bergeron, will have to pay a hefty fine following being found guilty of violations of the Environmental Quality Act (LQE).

According to a press release from the Ministry of the Environment and the Fight once morest Climate Change, on May 17, 2019, in Montreal-East, Service 3R Valorisation “failed to respect the standards, conditions, restrictions and prohibitions provided for therein, in failing to respect the maximum height of five meters of piles of materials stored on the site and six meters during periods of very high traffic or in the event of equipment breakdown.”

More than two years later, on October 12, 2021, the company and Simon Bergeron were found guilty of violations of the EQA.

After appealing the decision, the Superior Court of Quebec upheld the two offenses in a recent judgment on August 31, 2023.

The company was fined $7,500. She must also reimburse applicable fees and contributions, which represents $4,779.

For his part, Simon Bergeron will have to pay a fine of $5,000 and costs of $3,529.

Remember that citizens can report an act that might harm the environment using a form available on the ministry’s website.
