During his speech, the director of Sernac valued this initiative, since in his opinion it implies a series of benefits for consumers, strengthening the right to free choice of goods and services and care for the environment, in addition to stating that they also have The standardization of other types of charging, such as wireless charging via NFC or other forms, must be addressed in the future.
“This project is in line with international regulation in this matter, and implies a simplification in the use of electronic equipment and devices, contributing to reducing technological waste and reducing unnecessary costs,” Herrera stressed, in addition to raising the possibility that Suppliers can sell these products with or without chargers or power outlet adapters, although establishing a prohibition on tied sales.
In addition, the authority commented that it is important to make explicit in this bill some provisions, such as, for example, that accessories (charging devices) are durable goods, which will imply that companies must report their durability, as mandated. establishes the Pro Consumer Law.
Let us remember that this bill establishes a series of aspects that will benefit consumers, such as the duty of suppliers to guarantee common interoperability between this equipment and their charging devices, in such a way that they all adapt to a charging port. only.
This project also makes it mandatory for mobile information and telecommunications devices to comply with the procedures for the certification of safety and quality of electrical products established in the Regulations for the certification of electrical and fuel products.
In case of non-compliance with these provisions, if the project is approved, companies may receive fines of up to 300 UTM (around 19 million 500 thousand pesos) for each violation.
