A road accident occurred Tuesday evening on the E429 motorway near Frasnes, towards Tournai. The accident took place on a traffic lane closed for work. A malicious act would be at the origin, according to the firefighters.
The emergency services of Picardy Wallonia were alerted around 10:30 p.m. that an accident had occurred near Montroeul-au-Bois. The alert was given by motorists. Two ambulances and two marking vehicles were dispatched to the scene. Coming from Ronse, a SMUR was sent to the scene.
According to the firefighters, near Hacquegnies, the barriers prohibiting access to the motorway were opened, then removed on the side. Several vehicles have entered this section under construction.

Around 10:30 p.m., a car driven by a father took this access. In the dark, the driver would not have seen the work and got stuck in a pile of gravel. The car then rolled over several times. When paramedics arrived, the driver was already dead. He is a 29-year-old man, residing in Bouvignies, in the entity of Ath. Her 6-year-old son was conscious and screaming for help when paramedics arrived. Injured, the child was admitted to a hospital in Ronse.
The firefighters quickly put in place barriers at the Hacquegnies access.
Since Monday, road repair work has been underway on the Frasnes-Tournai motorway (A8/E429). In this direction, the two traffic lanes and the hard shoulder have been closed with barriers and a diversion has been put in place. Users drive towards Tournai on the left side of the motorway, which has been split in two using a central berm.
