Rather than subside, the controversy over the clashes in Bologna between antagonists and agents inflames. The Prefecture responded to the frontal attack on the government by Mayor Matteo Lepore, who even spoke of “black shirts”: “It should be noted that the demonstration organized by the National Movement of Italian Patriots Network for Saturday 9 November was the subject of in-depth examination within the provincial committee for public order and safety” and that “after careful analysis, it was noted that there were no reasons that could have legitimized a ban on the carrying out of the same”. But to clarify and respond to the accusations of the red left and the strong words of the mayor of the capital of Emilia-Romagna, the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi also intervened, saying he was “astonished”.
In Lepore “the Government has always ensured every form of convinced and loyal collaboration, most recently on the occasion of the recent flood in the city and the related controversies that followed”, Piantedosi recalled. “The correctness of the actions of the prefecture and the police forces in the complex and always delicate activity of managing public order is called into question. There is some irresponsibility in accrediting the untrue thesis of the alleged opposition to the holding of a demonstration referring to official documents which, on the contrary, testify that no ban had been requested, but the police headquarters had only been given a mandate to negotiate times and routes of the demonstration, as always happens”, he explained. Even more “serious”, according to the minister, is “insinuating alleged directions or interventions ‘from Rome'”. So the conclusion: “I trust that the end of the electoral campaign for the upcoming regional elections will bring back reason and institutional commitment in the exclusive interest of the citizens”, he wrote on X.

**Interview with Political Analyst Sofia Rossi on the Bologna Clashes**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Sofia. The recent clashes in Bologna have sparked significant controversy. What are your thoughts on the mayor’s comments referring to participants as “black shirts”?
**Sofia Rossi:** Thank you for having me. Mayor Matteo Lepore’s remarks are quite telling and reflect the deep-seated tensions in Italian society concerning far-right movements. By invoking the term “black shirts,” he draws a historical parallel to fascist movements, emphasizing the serious nature of the threats he perceives.
**Editor:** The Prefecture stated that they thoroughly examined the demonstration organized by the National Movement of Italian Patriots and found no grounds for a ban. How do you interpret this decision?
**Sofia Rossi:** The Prefecture’s assessment indicates a conflict between different levels of government regarding public safety and freedom of assembly. It suggests that while there is an awareness of potential violence, legal frameworks prioritize the right to protest. This can be a double-edged sword, especially when tensions are high.
**Editor:** Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi expressed his astonishment at the situation. What does his reaction signify about the current political climate?
**Sofia Rossi:** Minister Piantedosi’s astonishment reveals a split in the government regarding how to address rising tensions. It suggests that some officials may feel uncomfortable with how the situation is evolving and may be struggling to balance law enforcement with political correctness. This reflects broader societal divisions in Italy about the treatment of far-right groups.
**Editor:** As this situation continues to develop, what steps do you think should be taken to ensure public safety while respecting democratic rights?
**Sofia Rossi:** Effective communication between police authorities and local governments is crucial. Additionally, proactive measures, such as dialogue between opposing groups and community outreach, could mitigate tensions. It’s essential for all parties to uphold democratic values while finding a way to ensure the safety of all citizens.
**Editor:** Thank you, Sofia, for your insights on this complex issue.
**Sofia Rossi:** My pleasure. I hope for a peaceful resolution in Bologna and genuine dialogues to address the underlying issues.
