The number of operations centers that are discovered is increasing, as are the investigations that are being opened. Italy has become a country of spies and the issue of dossiers is as hot as it is urgent. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio spoke about it today during Question Time in the Chamber. “We are investing a series of very important sums to create security against hacker attacks, in the knowledge that the whole world has been found unprepared in the face of the aggression of hacking, precisely because the bad guys in almost all sectors act and they always intervene before the State equips itself with the necessary and sufficient regulations to control them, then there will come a moment, and for us it is a very close moment in which we will be able to control them completely”, he assured.
A phenomenon, that of illegal access and the information market, which is growing and worrying. “On the specific events of the so-called dossiers, I represent that the two criminal proceedings at the Perugia and Milan prosecutor’s offices are covered by investigative secrecy. This does not prevent me from expressing my deep concern for what has happened and is happening, which is unacceptable and disturbing and which constitutes a serious and concrete danger to our democracy”, remarked the Keeper of the Seals. For the strengthening of the public administration’s cyber services and systems, he continued, “total funding of over 715 million euros has been arranged by the National Cybersecurity Agency”.
“These resources concerned the financial years from 2022 to 2024 and will also affect the subsequent financial years 2025-2026, the Pnrr funds for a total of 376 million and the national cyber strategy funds for 339 million. Projects to strengthen the cyber defenses of public administrations , of which 113 local PAs and 54 central PAs, are aimed at strengthening perimeter defenses and the establishment of the SOC (Security operation center) for monitoring as well as actions to enhance awareness of the threat in the cyber security field for the members of the PA” , added the minister, firmly reiterating that the issue was taken into consideration with seriousness and determination.

**Interview with Cybersecurity Expert Dr. Elena Ricci**
**Interviewer:** Good morning, Dr. Ricci. Recent reports suggest that the cybersecurity market in Italy is set to grow significantly, projected at a rate of 6.03% from 2024 to 2029, reaching approximately $3.82 billion by 2029. What do you think is driving this growth?
**Dr. Ricci:** Good morning! The increase in the cybersecurity market in Italy is largely driven by the rising number of cyber threats and the heightened awareness of their potential impact on both public and private sectors. Events that have revealed vulnerabilities, such as high-profile data breaches, have prompted organizations to invest more in robust cybersecurity measures. Additionally, as Minister Carlo Nordio mentioned, there is a pressing need for resilience against hacking, which is becoming an urgent priority for the government as well.
**Interviewer:** Minister Nordio also mentioned that Italy is experiencing a growing phenomenon of illegal access and the information market. How serious is this issue, in your opinion?
**Dr. Ricci:** It’s a very serious issue. The growing sophistication of cybercriminals means that unauthorized access is becoming more common, threatening not only businesses but also individual privacy and national security. Italy, like many countries, is experiencing a significant increase in espionage activities, as highlighted by the Minister. This underlines the need for a comprehensive framework to counteract such threats effectively.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned the importance of government investment in cybersecurity. Can you elaborate on what that entails?
**Dr. Ricci:** Certainly. The government is investing heavily in strengthening its cybersecurity infrastructure, which includes establishing more secure cyber operations centers and enhancing the skills of cybersecurity professionals. With an allocation of over 715 million euros for these initiatives, it’s crucial that they focus not only on immediate threats but also on long-term strategies to foster innovation and resilience in the cyber landscape.
**Interviewer:** With the projected growth in the market and increased funding, what trends should we be keeping an eye on in the cybersecurity sector over the next few years?
**Dr. Ricci:** One key trend is the rise of AI-driven cybersecurity solutions that can predict and prevent attacks before they happen. Additionally, we will likely see a greater emphasis on collaboration between public and private sectors in sharing threat intelligence. Lastly, regulations will continue to evolve, especially concerning data protection and privacy, which will demand that organizations comply and adapt.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Dr. Ricci. Given the pervasive nature of cybersecurity threats, it seems clear that addressing these challenges will require a concerted effort from all sectors of society.
**Dr. Ricci:** Absolutely. It’s a crucial time for Italy and indeed the world, as we navigate these challenges together. Thank you for having me!
