Series fans should keep an eye on Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan, which premiered this Tuesday (27). At first, the production is being informally called “Samurai Game of Thrones”, but it should present content that is very different from what we are used to seeing on HBO.
Even so, this way of calling the series shows how expectations were for its premiere. At least for now, these impressions are coming true, as the first two episodes have been released and raised the rating to a rating of 9.3/10 on the IMDB website. On Rotten Tomatoes, there is 100% approval from critics and 96% from the general audience.
Adapted from the best-selling novel by James Clavell, the miniseries Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan follows the story of British sailor Jack Blackthrone (Cosmo Jarvis), who, following being shipwrecked on the Japanese coast, finds himself in a series of political and arms conflicts upon arriving in Japan at the beginning of the outbreak of a civil war. To survive in an unknown country, he is used as a pawn by Japanese leader Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who tries to reach the top of the ruling chain, or Shogun. Exploring the mythical universe of samurai and geisha in a Japan divided by religions and politics, the series explores the context of great navigations and the invasion of other nations on the island.
The series’ cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai among the main names. In total, the season will have 10 episodes and will be shown until the day April 23rd. The series is an FX production and will be shown in Brazil through the Star+ service.
