FASANO – Straight out of the Italian Cup for a Us Fasano that was too slow and cumbersome to get the better of a Matera (0-4) that fully carried out its task, also taking advantage of the home team’s gift-giving streak.
A clear defeat that well photographs what happened, at the end of a match that shows a Fasano team still struggling with the search for the right balance in the departments, appearing very frayed in the restarts of the Murgiani and decidedly awkward in the defensive phase.
The match was virtually over at 24′ of the first half with the hat-trick of the Murgiani; on the other hand, the locals only hit the woodwork three times, demonstrating their desire to reverse the course of the match, but more is still needed to face the championship that is already upon us, with the next match still at home, next Sunday, against the big Fidelis Andria of former coach Danucci.
A challenge with the single race formula
Competitive debut for Us Fasano who in the first round of the Italian Cup meets Matera at the “Curlo”, with the rule of the single match (if the tie should persist at the end of the 90′ the game goes directly to penalties). A typical summer day that attracted a good crowd to the stands with a fair participation of supporters following the Murgiani.
Murgiani with the 3-5-2 and the attacking duo Muscas-Burzio
The Murgiani of coach Ciullo are aiming for the 3-5-2 tactical module with the attacking duo composed of Muscas and Burzio, while on the midline Bello and Casiello on the outside, in the circle Ledesma, Napolitano and Sicurella. In defense Pirola, the captain Cipolletta and Russo, with Carotenuto in goal.
The locals are aiming for a 4-2-3-1 with Bolzicco as the striker
The home coach Iannini confirms the 4-2-3-1 tactical module with Bolzicco as the offensive terminal, supported from behind by Murgia, while on the outside there are Losavio and Signorile. In the circle captain Ganci paired with Penza, while on the back line Onraita and Orlando in the center, on the outside Ballatore and Lupoli, in goal Lombardo.
A Fasano in the mood for gifts gives his side
In the news, the guests immediately went ahead with Sicurella who in the 4th minute scored directly from a corner behind Lombardo. The same goalkeeper had to intervene a minute earlier on a shot from a tight angle by Muscas for a short save. The home team responded in the 7th minute with Losavio, served by Ballatore, who failed to fool the Murgia goalkeeper with his back heel. Sicurella hit the post from distance in the 8th minute, but the shot was tainted by a deflection resulting in a corner for the guests. The pressure from the guests found the back of the net again in the 15th minute with Pirola who scored a dangerous diagonal from Bello. A delicious opportunity for the home team in the 20th minute with Ganci who, served by a cross from Murgia, hit the post. The Murgia team played smoothly and in the 24th minute scored the third with Burzio, on a perfect cross from Casiello to completely cut across the area, in an authentic carbon copy of the second goal. In the 34th minute, Losavio serves Bolzicco who sends the ball high over the crossbar from close range. Bolzicco’s header hits the crossbar in the 36th minute, following a millimetre-perfect cross from Losavio. The locals again in the 40th minute, with Losavio testing Carotenuto. Another crossbar denies the locals the joy of a goal with Bolzicco, served by Losavio, who hits the woodwork in the 45th minute.
A flat recovery that changes practically nothing
In the second half, the whirlwind of substitutions by the locals did not change the balance on the pitch, with Matera scoring a poker in the 14th minute with Napolitano, at the end of a counterattack started by Sicurella. Carotenuto had to intervene in the 33rd minute to neutralize a free kick from the edge of the area by Murgia with the ball on the near post.
