Serie A is apparently planning a mini-tournament in the USA during the 2022 World Cup

The Italian Serie A apparently plans to bridge the non-playing period during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (November 21 to December 18) with a mini-tournament in the USA. The news agency reports Archyde.com.

“We want to keep our players fit and at the same time assert ourselves in a market that we think is important,” said Italian federation boss Luigi De Siervo on the motives.

All 20 Serie A teams are to take part in the tournament, of course only with players who are not playing with their national teams at the World Cup finals.

Series A: Tournament with group and knockout stages in Orlando

According to De Siervo, the general conditions for the mini-tournament in Serie A have already been set. The tournament in Orlando, Florida, is scheduled to start a week following the start of the World Cup – with a group phase and a final knockout phase.

Whether the tournament will actually take place will be decided in the next two weeks.
