The Kortrijk public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Wednesday that an investigation had been opened in November 2020 into suspicious deaths that occurred in a rest home in the town of Oostrozebeke, West Flanders, because the victims had an abnormal amount of insulin in the blood. No suspects have been arrested to date.

At the end of November 2020, the prosecution seized an investigating judge because of two suspicious deaths that occurred in the rest home. “The investigation was opened because two residents had an abnormal amount of insulin in their blood. From that moment, any suspicious clinical picture was scrutinized”, he explained. A third suspicious death was later added to the investigation.

“The clinical picture of five other residents is also examined”, added the floor. It is possible that they were also injected with insulin. “Further investigation should reveal whether or not there was malicious intent,” he said.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws and VTM Nieuws, which revealed the case on Wednesday, three murders and six attempted murders were committed in this nursing home. The victims were said to have been poisoned with insulin.
