The Dinant criminal court on Wednesday sentenced, as a repeat offender, a man prosecuted for domestic violence against two partners between May and October 2023 in Rochefort, to eight years in prison. He was also accused of rape, home invasion, verbal threats and telephone harassment.
The defendant had already been convicted 20 times, including 17 by a criminal court before this new conviction.
He began to be violent with his first partner after three weeks of dating. “His anger was more and more intense. On June 15, an argument broke out and blows were fired. Monsieur wanted to reconcile under the covers. After resisting for several hours, Madame, having no other choice, gave in. She did not resist but did not consent,” explained the Namur public prosecutor’s office.
The police intervene in time
The next day, the victim broke up via message. The accused returned to the scene and entered the house after smashing the front door. He went to the floor where this lady was with her two and four year old children. Fortunately, she had contacted the police, who were able to intervene in time.
This individual reproduced these actions in October 2023 with another partner, with whom he had been with for just a few days. In particular, he beat her during a weekend spent in Ypres and then forced her to have sex on the way back, in the car at a motorway rest area.
