Chilean international forward Darrol Jones scored a free throw with nine seconds remaining and Leones de Quilpué of Venezuelan Sergio Mijares is one step away from the title of the Chilean National Basketball League (LNB Chile), following defeating Español de Osorno 62-61, in the fourth game of the final series.
Despite missing the second shot, Jones secured the feline victory at the Monumental Gymnasium in Osorno, to leave the series 3-1, just one victory away from the title.
Former Gaiteros del Zulia forward Jerry Evans led the Valparaíso region quintet with 22 points (10-9 in free throws) and eight rebounds.
Mijares performance
In the momentous victory, Mijares from Barlovento was unlucky on three shots, but he did capture a rebound, hand out two assists and made a block.
In the third game of the final and the first in Osorno, the home team had obtained its first victory with a score of 82-71, thanks to 27 points, five rebounds and four decisive passes from Austin Wrighten.
In that match, which had left the series 2-1 in favor of Leones, Mijares had two points, two rebounds and four assists.
The series will return to Quilpué next weekend, where the quintet led by Spanish coach José Ángel Samaniego will try to win their first LNB Chile title.
