Sergio Massa closed a financial agreement with the IDB for US$235 million

At an IDB Assembly in Panama, Economy Minister Sergio Massa signed an agreement to finance three programs for Argentina.

agricultural health, waste management y maritime sustainability: these were the central axes of a financing proposal to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) this Friday. The agreement was signed by the Minister of National Economy, Sergio Massawho also closed a disbursement to support small wine producersas had been argued by Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Juan Jose Bahillo.

This Friday, Massa participated in Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the IDBin the City of Panama. There the Minister of Economy held a bilateral meeting with the president of the IDB, Ilan Goldfjnwith which they sealed agreements to finance Argentine programs for a total of $235 million.

Two of the policies, to which a total sum of $125 millionare the of Strengthening of Agricultural Health Services and of the Sustainable Management of Maritime Resources. Both programs have the objective of improving the control of pests that affect the country’s zoo-phytosanitary heritage, increasing the diagnostic capacity of plant and animal health laboratories, and reinforcing research on oceanographic resources.

Consequently, services in these areas of the National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) and the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP). It will also be invested in border control posts and health barriers with new infrastructure and equipment, the construction of a pre-sampling center to control fruit and a new quarantine station with high biosecurity standards for the accommodation of imported animals.

In addition, the continental financial institution decided to support the program of Integral Management of Urban Solid Waste (MSW) for a total of u$s 70 million. This proposal promotes recycling tasks, the implementation of MSW, the revitalization of its recovery processes and its final recovery with a focus on social inclusion.

In this sense, the policy includes the design and construction of sanitation systems (methane capture, separation, transfer, recovery and waste treatment plants), as well as infrastructure and equipment to support the urban recyclers. Another axis will be formalization and inclusion of informal reclaimers with an approach that favors the participation of women and people with disabilities.

Finally, the program of Support to small wine producerswith financing from $40 million, which will contribute to the social, economic and environmental sustainability of the wine sector, which includes the production of grapes and wine in the country. Those entrepreneurs who have suffered consequences from the droughts will mainly benefit.
