The Serbian head of state helped fuel the recent crisis in Kosovo. Now he can be celebrated as a problem solver and winner in the barricade dispute. But in the EU he gambled away further credit.
Serbia’s head of state, Aleksandar Vučić, personally announced the end of the barricade fight in northern Kosovo staged by Belgrade. “The barricades will be removed, but not the distrust,” said the head of the national-populist party SNS on Thursday night. Earlier, he held a two-hour meeting with representatives of Kosovo Serbs in Raška. If Prishtina does not follow those of the EU and the guarantees given to the USA not to pursue the barricade occupants, “the Serbs will seal off northern Kosovo forever”.
