“We also talk regarding corruption”
The European Parliament yesterday looked into the Serbian elections, which according to the opposition were marred by fraud and vote buying. Several parliamentarians discussed the preliminary report by OSCE observers, published on December 18, the day following the elections. It describes a vote “marked by isolated cases of violence, procedural irregularities and frequent allegations of organizing and transporting voters to support the ruling party in local elections”, as well as “vote buying and ballot stuffing.

In Belgrade, the opposition claims that the SNS organized the convoy of thousands of unregistered voters to the capital to vote “on a scale that decisively influenced the result”. According to the director of the non-governmental organization CRTA, Rasa Nedeljkov, “many people were paid for this. So we also talk regarding corruption. We are talking here regarding an operation which must have cost hundreds of thousands of euros.” A previous complaint, filed on January 12, was deemed inadmissible by the courts.
