President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that Serbia will not host Europride 2022. The President’s announcement comes following conservatives protested once morest the LGBT Pride Parade. Europride was canceled in a country with the first openly gay female prime minister.
The president’s announcement is that Europride, which was scheduled to be held in September, needs to be canceled or postponed due to the conflicts in the province of Kosovo. Organizer Marko Mihajlovic responded that the ban would not be accepted and that it was an infringement on the constitution.
Thousands protested in Belgrade earlier this month once morest Europride. Far-right parties and the Orthodox Church opposed it. The International LGBT Pride Parade has been organized in various European cities since 1992.
